Rishikesh also known as World Capital of Yoga or Gateway to the Garhwal Himalayas is located in the foothills of the Himalayas in northern India. It is also known as hub of adventures. 

It is the seventh most populated city in the state of Uttarakhand. It is known as the pilgrimage town and regarded as one of the holiest places for Hindus. Hindu sages and saints have visited Rishikesh since ancient times to meditate in search of higher knowledge. Due to the religious significance of the place, non-vegetarian food and alcohol are strictly prohibited in Rishikesh.

Neelkanth Mahadev Temple: The Neelkanth temple in Rishikesh is one of the most important shrines for devotees of Lord Shiva. It is one of the most popular ancient temple in Rishikesh and is perched on a hill at the height of 1330 meters, the temple is surrounded by dense forests and enclosed between the valleys of Brahmakoot, Manikoot, and Vishnukoot, This temple is visited by thousands of devotees every year . According to Hindu Mythology, Neelkanth temple in Rishikesh is situated at the exact place where Lord Shiva and Neelkanth drank the poison that came out of the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan) by Devtas and Asuras to obtain the Amrita.

Bhootnath Temple: Bhootnath Temple is another temple in Rishikesh that is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located on the top of the hill, the temple provides a beautiful panoramic view of the city. This famous Shiv Mandir in Rishikesh also has an interesting history. It is said that Lord Shiva rested here when he was going to marry his first wife Sati. The temple has several floors where the main holy place is a small shrine on the top floor. Here, the deity appears as Shivling that is bordered by ten bells from four sides.

Kunjapuri Temple: Kunjapuri Temple is another religious place to be explored in Rishikesh and is dedicated to Goddess Sati,. Nestled on the Kunjapuri Hill, this temple is one of the fifty-one Shakti Peeths. Shakti Peeths are different places where body parts of Goddess Sati dropped when Lord Shiva was carrying her burned and deceased body in his arms and wandering around unconsciously on the Himalaya. Every year, thousands of devotees come to get Goddess’s blessings, especially during ‘Navratras’ (April and October).  This famous temple in Rishikesh is known for offering gorgeous sights of the snow-ranges of the Himalayas.

Trayambakeshwar Temple: Trayambakeshwar temple is one of the most prominent holy shrines among Lord Shiva devotees. It is situated near Lakshman Jhula.. This famous Shiva temple in Rishikesh is a 13-storied with many deities inside. However, it is mainly famous for Lord Shiva as the name Trayambakeshwar refers to the ‘The Abode Of Three-Eyed’. Also popular as the Tera Manzil Temple, the temple attracts people with its intricate designs and brilliant architecture. Quite significantly, the Trayambakeshwar Temple in Rishikesh is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.

Shatrughna Temple: It is an ancient temple that attracts Hindu devotees from across the country. Situated near Ram Jhula in Rishikesh, this historical temple is dedicated to Shatrughna, the youngest brother of Lord Ram. This temple happens to be one of the most beautiful temples in Rishikesh, attracting visitors with its serenity and peaceful vibes. The best part here is you can worship inside the temple and practice yoga and meditation in the premises of the Temple.

Parmarth Niketan: This temple is located in Swarg Ashram on the banks of river Ganga, You will feel sacred energies and peaceful vibes all around as soon as enter this temple. The temple is famous worldwide for its yoga and meditation classes and for organizing Ganga Aarti and Hawan at sunset every day. Here, the mesmerizing views of the mother Ganga, and the divine energy of the temple will rejuvenate your entire being.


River rafting in River Ganga:


Rishikesh is the rafting hub where several rafting operators are based to serve the tourists. There are three popular rafting points in Rishikesh for a day’s tour, Brahmapuri to Ram Jhula (8 km), Shivpuri to Lakshman Jhula (16 km) and Marine Drive to Lakshman Jhula (26 km). The difficulty levels of the rafting adventure increases depending on the distance. The thrill of rafting on the turbulent rapids of Ganga river is enjoyed throughout the year except during the peak monsoon and winter season.


Camping on the river banks:


A huge amount of the state's revenue comes from tourism - with river rafting and camping. Enjoy the camping on river bank with natures sounds, the river gushing past gives a peak of white water & the continous sound of water in motion along with that of myriad birds & jungle life ensures a symphony far more pleasing.


Body surfing:


Body surfing in Rishikesh has gained a lot of popularity in the last few years. It is one of the most popular adventure activities here in which a person’s body floats on the waves and the motion of the river current takes you with it March end to June and September to November is the best time to try body surfing in Rishikesh when the climatic conditions remain favorable for this outdoor activity.
